Dogs Available for AdoptionInterested in adopting? Please visit our adoption page for our guidelines, and print out a copy of our adoption forms that you will be required to fill out. Karma ![]() Karma is about 2 years old, and is either a very tall single breed female Border Collie, or a mix of Border Collie and ROugh Collie. She will be spayed soon and is up to date on vaccinations. Karma is a beautiful dog, and very sweet. She knows a lot of basic commands, and gets along well with other dogs. Initially upon meeting other dogs while on leash, she pulls and makes a lot of noise, but once she is free to run with the others, she is fine. Karma would do well at agility but has no interest in toys. She is food motivated. Scottie (FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP) ![]() Scottie is an approximately 1 year old Patterdale Terrier mix weighing about 12lbs. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and working on housebreaking and crate training. Scottie is doing well with his crating training, and if he barks, we use a spray bottle of water, and he soon stops. We don't think Scottie would do well in a family with small children, because he likes to mouth. We are working on this! He doesn't bite, but he does mouth. For a small child this might be a little bit scary. He is good with other dogs, although when he plays he does like to growl loudly and pull tails! It's quite amusing. Gavin ![]() Gavin is an almost 2 year old Silky/Yorkie mix. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and very close to being housebroken. His foster mom says he asks to go potty outside, but you do have to keep on top of him. Gavin is great with other dogs and friendly cats. He would be fine with children who are good with dogs. Poet ![]() Poet is a 6 month old Australian Shepherd. He is up to date on vaccinations, housebroken (he has not had a single accident in the house!) and crate trained. Poet is what is known as a "Lethal White", the result of breeding two merles together, which often produces deaf, blind or deaf AND blind puppies. Poet appears to see quite well, but we know he is deaf. He is very gentle and sweet, loving as all get out! He LOVES cuddles. He also loves other dogs, but is a little rough in his puppy play with small ones. He is teething, so he will need to be watched. Due to his deafness, Poet will need an owner who can work with him and teach him hand signals. He learns these very quickly, as he is a very smart pup. He also needs sunscreen on his little pink nose to avoid burn. Sonny & Moon ![]() Sonny and Moon are 8 week old Shepherd mix puppies. They will be altered when they are 6 months old, are up to date on vaccinations (dewormed, first vaccines, Revolution for ticks and heartworm) and working on housebreaking and crate training. ![]() Sonny is the male, and Moon is the female. Both are sweet and shy, but sure to come out of their shells with love. ![]() Rex ![]() Rex is a 10 week old male mixed breed puppy who was rescued from a reserve in Manitoba. He is likely a Rottie/Collie mix. He will be neutered when he is 6 months, is up to date on vaccinations and working on housebreaking and crate training. He is very sweet and loves kids. He is good with cats and other dogs. Rex will be a very big boy. Rex would very much like to have a family of his own who will love him and let him be a family member just like he is in his foster home. Daisy ![]() Daisy is a 3 year old Border Collie/Gordon Setter mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and crate trained. Daisy has been through boot camp, and we feel she is ready for adoption. Since Daisy was separated from her brother, she no longer has any issues, except her desire to chase cars. This means one must be very cautious with her. Daisy is very loving and affectionate, good with other dogs, and fine with cats. Lucien & Flurry ![]() Flurry and Lucien are brothers, and they are very sweet boys. These two fellows are most likely Border Collie/Newfoundland mixes. They are NOT SMALL, and they will grow up to be VERY big boys. At three months of age, they are around 25-30 lbs already, so if you are wanting a big dog, one of these lads would be right for you. They are VERY gentle, very laid back. If you pick them up, they go floppy in your arms and enjoy being loved on. They are, however, puppies, and they need to be potty trained and they need to have things to chew on. They get along with other dogs very well. Both dogs would do well in a family with kids, other dogs and cats. ![]() We don't recommend adopting siblings, so these dogs do NOT need to be adopted together. They are in separate foster homes. Flurry is the lighter greyish lad, and Lucien is the dark lad. Both boys have white tipped tails and toes like a Border Collie. They will be neutered when they are old enough. Mandolyn ![]() Mandoyln is a 3 year old Border Collie mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and crate trained. Mandy has begun to FLOURISH in her new foster home! She has learned how to walk on leash, even being led by a little girl! Mandy is now ready to be adopted by a family who will understand her shyness with strangers. She is very sweet and loving, and loves to play ball, but returning the ball, well...that's another story! Bella ![]() Bella is a 9 month old Tri Coloured Border Collie. She is new to rescue, so we are just finding out about who she is. She is very friendly and likes people. Bella will soon be spayed and fully vaccinated. She was born with only one toe on her back left foot. She doesn't use it as much when she is walking around but in a full out sprint or when she is playing tuggy she uses it normally. Bella seems to enjoy playing tuggy!! She will chase a ball but so far has not shown any high drive. With the right person to show her how to play she will probably warm up to the idea of playing fetch and frisbee. Bella loves to lay with you and cuddle after a long day and is always happy to see you. She is being crate trained and learning basic commands. So far she knows sit, come and we're working on a few others. She enjoys one on one activities such as clicker training and is eager to learn. She has started learning how to walk nicely on leash as well. Bella used to live with two other dogs, and she is learning all about socialization with new dogs. She has had no issues with cats so far. With a loving family Bella will flourish and has the potential to be a wonderful companion and possibly participate in sports. Rusher ![]() Rusher is a 4 year old male Border Collie, who might have some Scotch Collie in him. He is neutered and had his shots and is heartworm negative. Rusher is just now recovering from hip surgery, and will have one more to go when he is able. He would love to have a family of his own to help him through recovery. A note from Rusher's foster mom: I think that Rusher has an excellent disposition, sweet, gentle and even tempered. He is a little shy and reserved when he meets new people, but warms up once he is used to them. Rusher is definitely very good with other dogs, and enjoys their companionship. He is also good with the cats he has met at the Vet's office. In the past month that I have fostered him, he has not played with a single toy, doesn't seem at all to know what they are. The noise of the squeaky toys seems to frighten him. Rusher does not play fetch; he is more of a couch potato. He is very happy to go for a nice walk and meet the neighbours and their dogs and walk with them. Rusher also enjoys car rides, the dog park and being with his people. He has a very loving nature. I used the crate initially, but now that he is housebroken (no marking), I generally don't put him into it very often. Sugar (ADOPTION PENDING)![]() Sugar is a 6 month old possibly Border Collie Shepherd mix available through HHBCR. A note from Sugar's foster mom: We found Sugar about two weeks ago; he was living under a tree and was extremely timid. He was eating garbage, full of wood ticks and was matted, dirty and had been sprayed by a skunk. We started to feed him and within two days he trusted us completely and has come along way from the scared little dog he was which means with a great home he will be a perfect, loyal companion for someone. We took him for his first shots and have the papers to document that for the new owners. He has been started on his heartworm and has had a flea/tick treatment. The vet also checked him for fleas, she said he had none. He was quite matted so he had to be shaved in certain parts but most of his coat is intact. He is a lovely puppy with a sweet disposition. He gets along with our other three dogs, doesn't seem bad with cats but to be honest I don't have one so I am not 100% on this. We have no kids but the neighbourhood kids have all been over and have played and petted him and he seemed fine. He walks well on a leash, is playful but loves to just sack out on a pillow on the floor. We are currently kennel training him when we are out as well as at bedtime and he is adjusted quite nicely with only a squeak now and then. To be quite honest he is a sweetheart and if wasn't that I already have three dogs I would definitely keep him. If his new forever home is as good as I hope it is in my head he will have a long happy life. Here are two videos of Sugar: Jada (ADOPTION PENDING) ![]() Jada is a one year old spayed Great Dane/Mastiff cross. She is a beautiful dog, with a gentle loving spirit. She is excellent with other dogs, and house trained/crate trained. Jada came into rescue because her mom could not handle her. In the right hands (confident, strong) Jada is a very good girl, well behaved and well mannered. She does have some fears, but given the correct handling, she overcomes them easily. Jada must only be fostered and/or adopted by a knowledgeable person. This person must have a good knowledge of dog behaviour, and understand how to work with a dog with fear/nervousness. Here at Ruff House, Jada is an absolute joy, and never gives us an ounce of trouble. She must also be adopted by someone with another dog as a playmate. Jada plays well with dogs of all sizes. Domino/Romeo ![]() Domino/Romeo (he comes to either) is a 15 month old Border Collie. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken (he rings a bell to go outside!) and crate trained. Domino is very shy and leery at first, but warms up very quickly when he realizes nobody will hurt him. He is good with other dogs, however he DOES have a tendency to guard his owner/handler in what can only be considered resource guarding. He is protective with chewies around other dogs, but a human can remove food or anything from him no problem. He loves to snuggle, and gives funny little "click" kisses. Domino must have NO SMALL KIDS in his adoptive home, as he loves to herd, giving little nips at heels. When he is excited, he will also nip the backs of your arms, but NOT hard and no aggression. Domino will need a firm but loving hand, someone who understands the breed. He is very playful, but needs to learn to play fetch etc on his own without the distraction of other dogs. Darwin ![]() Darwin is another one fo the Elma rescues. He is a 5 or 6 year old Border Collie mix. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He is very gentle and sweet. He is not terrible on a leash, but will require some work. He gets along well with other dogs. We are not sure about cats. ![]() Darwin would make a nice family pet for people who just want a pal, not a sport dog. Ruff![]() Ruff is an approximately 5 year old male Border Collie mix. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, seems to be housebroken and is good in the ex-pen. Ruff is very gentle and sweet, and loves giving kisses. He would love a nice home with a family to love him. Ghost ![]() Ghost is an 11 month old Border Collie female. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and working on her crate training. Ghost was pulled from a shelter in Missouri, US. She was abandoned and left to die at the shelter because her owners didn't want her anymore. It has been discovered she has bilateral hip dysplasia, and requires two surgeries that will cost just under $2000. The cost of this surgery will be covered by the rescue. We are looking for a patient and loving home that can give her a nice, warm place to recuperate and recover after her surgery. UPDATE! March 9, 2010 Ghost has had one hip repaired so far, plus her spay surgery. She is recovering at her foster mom Rebecca's home, surrounded by lots of love and care. Thank you to those wonderful supporters who have donated towards Ghost's vet bill, Cathy Kelly, Tracy Baldwin and Denise Anobis. Your help means the world to a little dog who was going to die because nobody wanted to pay to have her hips fixed. Without your help, we couldn't do this kind of rescue! In 8 weeks, Ghost will have her second surgery. She is SUCH a good girl! See Ghost's page for new photos! |
