This is one special fella that is looking for a new foster home, willing to work with him to take him to the next level, or a committed adopter also willing to give him time and work with him. He is lovely and gentle but still so unsure. Here is what his current foster has to say: "I have been fostering Ruger for the past three months. In that time Ruger has slowly progressed in gaining confidence and getting more comfortable around humans. He still has a way to go though and could benefit from additional help. Ruger is a year old and has been neutered. He is getting more comfortable in his current surroundings and the puppy that he is is coming out and wanting to play more. Unfortunately, my resident dogs are not interested or suited to play with Ruger in the way that would be of benefit to him. I think he would benefit greatly from a confident dog that can match his energy and take him under their wing in learning to be comfortable and confident in a family setting. Ruger is a bit of a flight risk (largely in unfamiliar or uncertain situations) so he will need to go somewhere with a fenced yard. He has never shown any aggression toward humans or dogs. He is a very submissive and sweet guy. He is skittish and needs slower movements and a family with patience for him to progress at his own pace. He has been exposed to children with no issues and actually seems to be more comfortable around children than adults. There is a lot of potential for Ruger to be an amazing companion and family dog, he just needs reassurance. This is something where I feel he will benefit greatly from a situation where he has a canine companion to show him the ropes. He will also benefit from an active family that can show him he belongs." ** UPDATE! We recently learned that Ruger LOVES swimming and playing fetch/ball. He is really coming out of his shell! He would LOVE a home with children and another playful confident dog. He is doing better with coming into the home but you do need to leash him and help in over the threshold. If you feel Ruger could be a great match for you, to foster or adopt, please contact us at adoptions@hullshaven.org or complete our foster or adoption application. Ruger's adoption fee includes his vetting - he is up to date on all required vaccinations, deworming, heartworm and tick prevention and neutered. BACK TO ADOPTABLES Apply today!
